War, white walkers, royalty, kingdoms at war and dragons. Who doesn’t like Game of Thrones? George R.R. Martin’s fictional world has become everyone’s favorite TV show. Since the first appearance of dragons in the last episode of first season they have always stayed in the buzz.

By the seventh season we have seen them conquer cities, win wars and rule kingdoms. Daenerys and her dragons are the most important thing about the show. Everyone becomes stunned when her majesty arrives with her dragons. But do you know how they are created? It would be very obvious to say that they are not real. (Or are they?)

So basically the actress uses cardboard props that are green in color and later on those scenes are altered in the post production using VFX to bring the dragons to life. The scenes where she is seen patting the dragons it is basically a small green prop which then become dragons in the hands of the VFX artists.

Even the scenes where you see her riding the dragon it is a small platform that is green in color and she pretends it to be a dragon. (Acting skills on point!) The dragons are the pride of House Targareyan which are envied by the western lords and seen as a threat.

Although we cannot deny that watching dragons fly and the queen ruling kingdoms is a dream plot line that no one could have thought of. Also you will be intrigued to know that more than thousands of VFX artists work for the appearance of the dragon, its movement, sounds and how it will be animated to aesthetically please the audience.

All Game of Thrones fans might wonder if the dragons are just props in green painting then how can we show the queen flying atop it all the time. Good Question. In those scenes the background is also green screen and later blue sky is added with the CGI effects.

Basically you can say that Game of Thrones wouldn’t have existed as a TV show without good visual effects and the efforts of the team. You can also join VFX courses to learn the craft for yourself and work on projects as big as these. Good VFX and animation courses will change the path of your life making it more creative and successful.
